The dressing room experience re-invented
Shoppers visiting Macy’s Herald Square store in New York through November of this year are in for a surprise! Macy’s and LBi have re-invented the dressing room experience by using augmented reality, app technology and social media.
The dressing booths are equipped with a 72-inch multi-touch mirror and an iPad. The customer selects clothing from the iPad application and transfers the items on their body’s image on the mirror. And there’s more! While shopping, customers can easily upload photos of themselves in their new outfits to social networking sites (using e-mails or SMS). This allows them to get live feedback from their friends with a flick of the wrist.

Virtual fitting room
Tobi.com has launched a virtual fitting room that users can access from their home. Augmented reality will help in answering the most important question: “how will this look on me?” Just by using a printed marker and a webcam, users can try items on and motion sensors are used to rate styles with the wave of a hand. They can also post pictures immediately to Facebook in order to see what friends think or when you just need that second opinion.

Augmented reality Twitter feed shirt
Today, I stumbled upon a post from PSFK that grabbed my attention. At Squidder, they apparently love augmented reality and besides an nice experiment with a car, they made an augmented reality Twitter feed shirt.

On the front of the shirt, a pattern – containing a Twitter username – is printed. When the pattern is detected by computer or phone, the Twitter feed from the corresponding Twitter user (embedded in the pattern) is displayed!
